    Institute of Advanced Studies

(Institute of Advanced Studies) is located in the west end of Shimla. It is home to the most famous monument in the city that houses the Institute of Advance Studies. It is one of the most influential research center in the country. It was set up by the Ministry of education in the year 1964. The building in which the institute is set up is a historic palace that was built by Lord Dufferin, who was the Viceroy of India from 1884–1888. Estwhile called the Viceregal Lodge, is today the Rashtrapati Bhawan as well as the Institute of Advanced Studies. Most parts of the institute is closed for public viewing, however the rest of the area which is open attracts a big number of tourists to the place.
